5 Puerto Rico nonprofits receive $9M from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott

Iniciativa Comunitaria received $2 million from MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving foundation to fund the Brega Bien mental health program for children, youth, and families. The donation will restore Brega Bien’s headquarters in Hato Rey, enabling it to offer community outpatient services like psychology, psychiatry, social work, and alternative therapies. The program includes workshops in technology, media, dance, art, and tutoring with flexible hours to support families.

Brega Bien aims to be a healing space and gateway to mental health treatment on the island. Yield Giving’s global $640 million donation supports community-led nonprofits improving well-being.
